The independent international National H-index Ranking recently presented its updated results for the second quarter of 2025. In this article, we will focus on the Macedonian universities that made it into the top ten according to the ranking, and compare their scientific performance with previous results.
The ranking is updated twice a year and is based on the h-index, which is compiled from data from authoritative scientometric platforms, including Web of Science, Scopus and Google Scholar. In the previous article, we looked at the most influential institutions in Macedonia – institutes, organisations and universities. This time, we will focus exclusively on higher education institutions.

To compile the ranking, the activities of 22 higher education institutions were analysed and evaluated.
How have the positions of Macedonian universities changed?
Compared to the fourth quarter of 2024, most Macedonian universities that made it into the top 10 in the second quarter of 2025 showed positive dynamics in the national h-index.
